Celebrating Community at the Hillfields Summer Fair

What a day. On Saturday 20 June, more than 250 neighbours, families and friends came together to celebrate the summer solstice, and Hillfields was buzzing with music, conversation, cake and community.
Thanks to your generosity, we raised hundreds of pounds, with every penny going back into the work we do together. A huge thank you to the 24 volunteers who gave up their Saturday to make the day happen, and to everyone who baked or decorated a cake, to the community performers, all of the volunteers who helped organise the event, and helped behind the scenes. You are the heart of Hillfields. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the fair, including Cakesmiths, Morrisons Fishponds, Bristol Noise, Secret Soup Society and Retrofit West, whose funding helped make the event possible. And a special shout-out to St Werburghs City Farm and Bristol Noise, who supported the event with much-needed gazebos. |
Our performers filled the afternoon with joy, from Becca’s beautiful Summer Solstice Storytelling to live music from Music with Charlie, Casa de Bamba, the Hillfields Garden Choir and many more. Our stallholders brought colour and conversation, with Larry Bennett’s photographs of Hillfields through the decades proving a particular highlight - Larry's books are still available for sale, with £1 from each sale of the Hillfields Park Community Centre look back through the ages being donated to us.

Alongside the fun, the fair also showcased practical ways to care for our homes, community and environment through some informative and engaging stalls. Hillfields CAN, Bristol Energy Network, and Retrofit West shared advice on everything from installing water butts to reducing energy bills and making homes healthier and more comfortable. Dr Bike and Bike Bristol kept wheels turning with free bike checks and repairs throughout the afternoon and Access Sport ran an extra Pump Track session in the Park.
Days like this remind us what Hillfields is all about: people coming together, looking out for one another and growing something special. Thank you for being part of it, and can’t wait to see you at the next one!e and join us – we’d love to see you.
