This sessions will:
  1. Support young people to connect with the land, food and natural resources via fun games and interactive activities
  2. Inspire young people to use their foraged  greens and vegetables to create a fun, easy snack in the kitchen
  3. Create a fun space where children of different ages play and work together

Information for Parents and Guardians

We will meet at Hillfields Park Community Centre, Thicket Avenue, Hillfields, BS16 4EH at 10am. We will then spend some time in Hillfields Community Garden to play games and collect greens for our cooking activity. We will return to the Centre to cook a small dish that will be taken home at the end of the 2-hour session.

Staffing
Hillfields Food Tree Workshops are run by Benedetta, the Nature Learning Leader and Misty, the Community Kitchen Lead. We will never have a ratio of more than 1:6 staff/qualified volunteers to children, both staff have enhanced DBS. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Sarah Rogers, CEO, 07709053290 or Sam 0117 304 8045.

Fees
The two hour session is £8.00, plus the ticket fee when booking. Sibling tickets are £5. Payments are made online through our booking system. The two sessions will be identical so please only book one.

Drop off/ Pick-up time
The sessions will start at 10am, and we will meet at Hillfields Park Community Centre. Please let us know if you’re running late as we will then move to the community garden. Pick up time is at 12pm. If you are late there will be a charge as we have to cover staff costs. Your child must be picked up at the end of the session, unless you state otherwise on the form.
If your child is walking home alone please consider whether your child is ready for the responsibility of walking home alone by assessing risks in the route and your child's confidence in road safety. We can only take responsibility for your child during the 2-hour session at Hillfields Park Community Centre.

Food
We will be making a small pastry ‘tree branch’ to take home so children will not have lunch at the club. This will be vegetarian, please let us know if your child has any dietary requirements on the information form. Please ensure your child/ren bring a tupperware to take the pastry home, and a water bottle on the day.

Clothes
Please send your child/ren in clothes they don’t mind getting dirty and ready for all weathers. If it is hot and sunny ensure your child/ren have hats and sunscreen. If it is rainy make sure your child/ren have waterproof clothing or bring a change of clothes. If it is too wet to be outside we will stay inside the building for the duration of the session.
Please ensure your child/ren wear closed shoes as we will be using child safety knives to cut vegetables.

Health and Safety
Our Hillfields Food Tree Summer Club is based in a large community centre building and our community garden. It is not a soft play area and whilst we will make the area as safe as possible there are risks associated. We have a risk and benefit assessment, available upon request. Benedetta is qualified in pediatric first aid.
Our building will be closed to the public but the garden is within an open public park. Because of this our club is not suitable for children that have a history of running off and not coming back. If your child hides and doesn’t respond to being called back, the nature of the site outdoors means we are obliged to phone the police.

Safeguarding
We have a safeguarding policy that is available on our website. All members of staff have enhanced DBS checks.
