WECA Mayor Helen Godwin visits Hillfields Community Garden

​A few weeks ago we welcomed WECA Mayor Helen Godwin to Hillfields Community Garden.

CEO, Sarah Rogers, provided an inspiring overview of the Community Park Centre, reflecting on the significant progress made since its opening. She spoke passionately about the impact we are creating, an impact rooted in the strengths, skills and enthusiasm already present within Hillfields. 

Since opening to the public last year, the centre has gone from strength to strength. At a time when community unity matters more than ever, Hillfields residents are demonstrating what is possible when people come together with a shared purpose. The centre is now a vibrant anchor of activity, supporting families and older residents, creating inclusive green spaces, expanding volunteer opportunities, and offering nature‑based programmes that help people feel connected, valued and supported.

Sarah said, “Hosting Helen for the afternoon was a fantastic honour. It was great to showcase the hard work happening locally, experience the amazing food cooked by residents in our community cafe and talk about the wider challenges and opportunities in Hillfields. As we work further on developing our work in Hillfields, it will be increasingly important to connect to local and regional priorities that every day affect the lives of local residents, such as access to healthy and nutritious food, reliable transport, housing and healthcare.
